Tems

Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, made history at the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday (2 February 2025) by winning the prestigious Best African Music Performance Award.

Her hit track “Love Me Jeje,” produced by Ghanaian artist Guilty Beatz, claimed victory over stiff competition from notable contenders such as Yemi Alade’s “Tomorrow,” Asake & Wizkid’s “MMS,” Chris Brown’s “Sensational” featuring Davido & Lojay, and Burna Boy’s “Higher.”

The song, which samples Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 classic “Love Me Jeje,” has gained acclaim since its release in April.

With this win, women have claimed the Best African Music Performance award consecutively, following Tyla’s victory last year.

Tems’ Grammy win marks a milestone in her career, building on her previous recognition for featuring in Future’s “Wait For U.”

This latest achievement highlights her significant impact on the international music industry and further solidifies her status as a trailblazer.

Tems’ victory is a significant step in her journey, inspiring aspiring artists and elevating African music globally.
