Tema youth resist Ebi Bright for Mayor
Speaking to Asaase News, some of the protest leaders stressed that the demand for a local appointee reflects the collective will of both the youth and the traditional authorities in Tema East. They warned that ignoring the call could deepen tensions in the community

Dozens of youth in Ghana’s industrial city of Tema staged a protest on Sunday at the premises of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, demanding that President John Mahama appoint a native of the area as the next mayor.
The demonstrators, wielding placards, burning tyres, and beating drums, said their action was in response to growing speculation that Ebi Bright is being considered for the post—despite earlier reports suggesting Patience Ankamah Addo was the frontrunner.
Speaking to Asaase News, some of the protest leaders stressed that the demand for a local appointee reflects the collective will of both the youth and the traditional authorities in Tema East. They warned that ignoring the call could deepen tensions in the community.
“We are here with a heavy heart to register our displeasure”, said Dora Sappor, a concerned youth from Tema.
“We are hearing that Ebi Bright is to be made the Mayor of Tema, but that is not going to happen. She was not even part of the whole process, so why are they bringing her to be the mayor? This is something we will not understand”, she stated.
The presidency has yet to respond to the concerns.
