Telecom sector to get a boost with smarter SIM Re-registration – Samuel George

Minister of Communication/Sam George/Multichoice Ghana/DStv

Samuel Nartey George, the Minister-nominee for Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovation, has announced plans to undertake a new, technology-driven SIM re-registration exercise if approved for the role.

During his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Thursday (30 January) George criticised the previous registration process, describing it as inefficient and cumbersome.

He assured that the next phase would eliminate long queues by leveraging digital solutions for a seamless experience.

“We will do a proper SIM re-registration again, and this time, there will be no queues because common sense will prevail, and we will use technology to do it,” he stated.

Emphasising the importance of the exercise, he noted that re-registration remains crucial for enhancing national security, preventing fraud, and ensuring a more secure and reliable telecommunications system.

According to him, adopting a smarter, more logical approach would make the process convenient for citizens while achieving its intended objectives.

The Ningo/Prampram lawmaker further assured the Committee that, under his leadership, the Ministry would prioritise efficiency and innovation in all digital initiatives, including SIM registration, to build a robust and inclusive telecommunications sector.
