Asenso-Boakye files GHC10 million defamation suit against Captain Smart, Media General

The Works and Housing Minister is also demanding a retraction and an apology from the defendants seven days after the judgment

Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Works and Housing Minister, has filed a defamation suit seeking compensatory damages of GHC10 million, against the host of Onua TV’s morning show host, Blessed Godsbrain Smart also known as Captain Smart and Media General Limited.

According to the statement of claim, the minister wants “A declaration that the words complained of in paragraph 9 and published by the 1st defendant on the 2nd defendant’s platforms are defamatory of the plaintiff’s character.”

“An order of the honourable court for a perpetual injunction restraining the 2nd defendant, its agents, assigns, servants and any person claiming authority through it from utilising its platforms for the propagation of false and malicious statements about the plaintiff.”

Asenso-Boakye had earlier claimed that Captain Smart alleged that when he was the deputy chief of staff at the Presidency, he used his office to cease one Adubufuor, an employee of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) from being transferred.

However, the minister has denied it.

He has described the allegation as “blatant and wicked lies”.
