Teachers call off nationwide strike

The move comes after the government and organised labour on Thursday (14 July) agreed on a 15% cost of living allowance (COLA) to be paid to all public sector workers

Teacher unions across the country have called off their almost two weeks strike over the cost of living allowance (COLA).

The government and organised labour on Thursday (14 July) agreed on a 15% cost of living allowance (COLA) to be paid to all public sector workers effective 1 July 2022.

According to the agreement, “all industrial actions and threats of same will be called off immediately and that all labour unions will return to work forthwith.”

Teacher unions in Ghana declared an indefinite strike over their cost of living allowance (COLA).

But following the agreement with the government on Thursday, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) announced that it is calling off the strike.

“…Dear Comrades, having agreed on 15% COLA, we wish to inform all our members that our strike is hereby called off,” GNAT said in a post on Twitter.
