Taptap Send resumes operations to Ghana

The remittance service returns after a month-long pause, reconnecting the Ghanaian diaspora with their loved ones

Taptap Send, a prominent player in the global money transfer industry, has resumed operations to Ghana after a month-long suspension prompted by a regulatory directive from the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

The service, which enables the Ghanaian diaspora to send money seamlessly back home, was halted between 8 November and 8 December 2024.

The BoG accused Taptap Send of operating an offshore cedi wallet in breach of Ghana’s banking and foreign exchange laws.

This directive also required all financial institutions partnering with Taptap Send to cease facilitating its transactions during the period.

In a statement dated 9 December 2024, Taptap Send announced the BoG had lifted the suspension on 4 December, earlier than anticipated.

This allowed the company to swiftly restore its service to the delight of its customers.

“You can now resume sending money from the UK, Europe, Canada, United States of America and the UAE to your loved ones in Ghana with immediate effect,” the company told its customers.

“We understand how important it is for you to stay connected and support your family, and we’re thrilled to bring this service back.”

Darryl Mawutor Abraham, Head of Taptap Send Africa, expressed gratitude for the support shown by customers during the suspension.

“We are excited to resume transfers to Ghana for the thousands of Ghanaians who have come to rely on Taptap Send for their money transfers in the past years,” he said.

“We truly appreciate the patience, love, support and understanding of our customers during the suspension period and we are committed to serving the Ghanaian diaspora in full compliance with all applicable regulations.”

Taptap Send, a global fintech company, facilitates digital-only cross-border money transfers via regulated entities in the UK, Europe, the US, Canada, and the UAE.

Despite the suspension, its regulatory status remains intact, and the company has reiterated its commitment to complying with Ghana’s financial regulations.

The resumption of Taptap Send’s operations is a relief for many in the Ghanaian diaspora, who rely on its platform to provide crucial financial support to their families back home.
