Tamale Sports Stadium set for renovation as NSA partners with Karela United

The renovation project aims to meet GPL standards and attract top-flight football to Tamale

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has teamed up with Ghana Premier League (GPL) club Karela United to revamp the pitch at Tamale Sports Stadium, currently serving as the club’s home ground for the 2024/2025 GPL season.

In an announcement on Saturday (5 October), the NSA confirmed that the renovation would not only improve the playing surface to meet GPL standards but also upgrade the stadium’s basic facilities.

According to the NSA, the project is designed to deliver a world-class sporting facility for the Tamale community and its surrounding areas.

The authority hopes the upgrade will attract more high-profile football matches to the city, bolstering local sports engagement.

NSA’s acting Director General, Seth Panwum, visited Tamale to inspect the ongoing renovations and assess the stadium’s preparedness ahead of Karela United’s Premier League clash with Samatex. The game took place on Sunday (6 October) and ended in a 1-1 draw.
