Takoradi market fire: 100 affected traders get GHC150,000 MASLOC loans

The regional manager of MASLOC, Malik Halik Botwe is hopeful the recipients of the loan will repay in time for the centre to continue supporting them

Traders who lost their goods to the 4 April fire at the Takoradi market  have received some financial assistance from the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) to help defray debts they owe suppliers, and to also invest in their businesses.

The 100 traders identified based on data provided by the Takoradi sub metro are expected to repay the loan advanced to them by the center on schedule to convince it to improve on the amount given.

The western regional minister, Kobina Okyere Darko Mensah during a visit to the market after the distraction by the inferno gave assurance to the affected traders of the government’s financial support from MASLOC.

On the back of this, MASLOC led by its CEO, Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah, on Wednesday (26 October) disbursed GHC150, 000 to the 100 affected traders.

The regional manager of MASLOC, Malik Halik Botwe is hopeful the recipients of the loan will repay in time for the centre to continue supporting them.

The loans attracting 12% interest per month are due to be paid within a 12-month period with a month moratorium.

Similar gesture was replicated in Tarkwa.
