Takoradi: Alleged kidnappers of pregnant woman demand ransom

Josephine Simons, the 28-year-old pregnant woman, went missing after going out for her usual morning walk on Thursday 16 September 2021

A pregnant woman is believed to have been kidnapped in Takoradi in the Western Region, the police confirmed on Friday 17 September 2021.

Josephine Simons, who is nine months pregnant, went missing after going for her routine morning walk on Thursday 16 September 2021.

According to the regional police spokesperson, Detective Superintendent of Police Olivia Ewurabena Adeku, officers are still investigating the whereabouts of the 28-year-old woman after receiving a complaint from her husband, Michael Simons.

Speaking to Asaase News, Simons said the alleged kidnappers established contact with the family to demand a ransom a few hours after his wife went missing.

“They called and gave the phone to her to talk to her mother to make some demands,” Michael Simons said.

“We wanted to know what they want, but we’ve lost contact since then. So, we’ve informed the police about it,” he said.

DSP Adeku told Asaase News that police are following leads which could help them discover the whereabouts of the pregnant woman.
