Viral video of NDC candidate “spraying” cash in Ejura under scrutiny, say police

Juliana Kinang Wassan was seen in the 19-second viral video standing in a car and showering cash on NDC party members at a polling station in Ejura

The Ghana Police Service says its attention has been drawn to a viral video showing a parliamentary candidate splashing cash on party delegates and supporters in the Ashanti regional town of Ejura.

Juliana Kinang Wassan, the candidate, was seen in the 19-second viral video standing in a car and showering cash on party members at the polling station on the Ahmadiyya School Park.

She is reported to have said that she realised she had the money in her car and decided to show some love to her fellow NDC members by sharing it.

But the police in a statement said “a dedicated legal team is currently scrutinising her conduct in the video to establish whether there are elements of election-related crime to warrant police intervention or otherwise.”

Eight arrested
Meanwhile, the police said, at least, eight suspects have been arrested across the country for various election-related offences.

The suspects, Yaro Burdove, Harrison Martey, Imoro Ibrahim, Arkoli Mensah, Nyarko Richard, Prince Lomotey, Hamidu Dramani and Bejando Emmanuel, were arrested at voting centres across four constituencies.

Burdove was arrested at the Ningo-Prampram Constituency for taking a photograph of his ballot paper in the polling booth and also attempting to take photographs of the ballots of other voters. Martey and Ibrahim were engaged in a fight in the same constituency.

Mensah and Nyarko were engaged in a fight in the New Juaben South Constituency in the Eastern Region.

Lomotey was arrested for impersonation in the Mfantseman Constituency in the Central Region while Dramani and Bejando were arrested for causing violence in the Atebubu-Amantin Constituency of the Bono East Region.

The statement said, “Five of the suspects are currently on police inquiry bail, while the three others are in custody assisting the ongoing police investigation.”
