Soon Africa may not go to China to buy finished products, says Gabby Otchere-Darko

Otchere-Darko says the Chinese are recognising that sooner than later Africans may not be going to their country (China) to buy finished products to come and sell

The founder and executive chairman of the Africa Prosperity Network (APN), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has said that sooner than later, Africans may not be going to China to buy finished products to come and sell.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (31 January) Otchere-Darko said, “Africa may soon become a single market and sooner than later, our country can be an industrial hub to serve the rest of the continent and beyond,” he added.

“We [Africans] will no longer be going to Guangzhou to go and buy finished products to come and sell in Africa.”

He added, “It looks like the Chinese are seeing where Africa is going. There are Chinese factories in Ghana because they noticed that in Ghana we have some relative peace.”

“In Ghana, there’s some stability, and they are setting up factories here, whether in ceramics whether in cement, all over.”

He explained that the Chinese are setting up manufacturing companies in Ghana because they are beginning to realise that Africans may not need them for their finished products anymore.

“And just last week, you had this US$2 billion investment and I believe it’s the single largest investment in our country, perhaps in the Fourth Republic.”

“So the Chinese are recognising that sooner than later Africans may not be going to China to buy finished products to come and sell, so they are setting up a manufacturing base.

“And what I care about is that the manufacturing base is here and is creating jobs and once you do that, others will come and join,” he added.
