Akufo-Addo attends G5 Sahel Summit in Chad

Akufo-Addo is attending the summit, which will consider measures to contain Islamism in the Sahel, in his capacity as the chairman of ECOWAS

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday (15 February) left Ghana to attend the seventh session of the Ordinary Summit of the Heads of State of G5 Sahel, a statement from the Office of the President has announced.

Akufo-Addo is attending the summit in his capacity as the chairman of ECOWAS.

The G5 summit, which is being held in N’Djamena, the capital of Chad, will deliberate on progress being made against the Islamist insurgency in the Sahel region.

President Akufo-Addo is accompanied by the Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey and the Minister-designate of National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah, as well as officials from the Office of the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The president will return to Ghana later on Monday, the statement said.
