Speaker of Parliament delaying budget presentation over demand for double of 2022 allocation to the House

Demands by the Speaker Alban Bagbin for more than twice of budgetary provision for the legislature is delaying the 2022 budget presentation

Demands by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, for more than twice of budgetary provision for the legislative arm of government, (Parliament), is said to be responsible for the delay in the presentation of the 2022 budget and fiscal policy of the Akufo-Addo administration to Parliament.

Asaase News source familiar with the development indicate that the Speaker of Parliament together with Parliamentary leadership are locked in a meeting in Parliament with the Finance Minister and other members of the Economic management team of the State negotiating a last minute deal.

The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta was expected to deliver the budget statement to Parliament at 10am, today, Wednesday the 17th of November 2021.

However, as a result of the last minute demands  of the Speaker of the House, the presentation has been delayed by over two and a half hours of negotiations aimed at getting government to double the allotment of budgetary support to Parliament.
