Suhum Kenkey Party raises funds to support pupils

This year’s event, which is the fifth edition, brought together both residents and non-residents of Suhum with the aim of raising funds to support pupils in class one with text books and other stationery for the 2023/2024 academic year in September

The Suhum Kenkey Party is on its way to becoming as popular as the Kwahu Easter. The annual event was instituted in 2017 after an indigene of Suhum died in a gory car accident in 2016 when he visited Kwahu for the Easter celebrations.

The rationale was to prevent indigenes from traveling to Kwahu for the Easter festivities.

This year’s event, which is the fifth edition, brought together both residents and non-residents of Suhum with the aim of raising funds to support pupils in class one with text books and other stationery for the 2023/2024 academic year in September.

The communications officer for the Suhum Kenkey Party, Alex Martinson, stated that the committee members identify an urgent social problem in the Suhum municipality before the event. They, then, raise funds, through the event, to address the problem.

He said this helps to complement the government’s efforts in addressing social issues.

Martinson said kenkey was chosen as the meal for the event because it is a staple in Suhum.

The Akyempemhene of Suhum, Nana Adu Darko, commended Martinson and his team for the initiative.

He said it goes beyond developing the municipality; it unites the indigenes of Suhum both home and abroad.

The Akyempemhene made an appeal for more support to sustain the Suhum Kenkey Party.
