Kumasi Traditional Council orders NPP to produce Wontumi in seven days

The NPP delegation were at the Manhyia Palace on Monday following alleged unsavoury comments made against Otumfuo Osei Tutu II

The Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) has ordered the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to produce its Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Wontumi in the next seven days.

The council has also ordered popular lawyer Maurice Ampaw and management of Wontumi TV/Radio to appear before it, after the former was accused of making unsavory comments against the chiefs.

The party delegation were at the Manhyia Palace on Monday (22 January) following alleged unsavoury comments made against the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, by the party stalwart.

The council, however, heard that Wontumi could not make it to the Palace as he was indisposed.

General secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua who led the high-powered delegation thus prayed the council to adjourn sitting to the next two weeks.

But that was shot down by the council who adjourned sitting to Monday (29 January).

“The issue is yet to be brought to our attention and so I will urge Nananom to exercise restraints”, said the Bantamahene Baafour Owusu Amankwatia VI, who presided over the sitting.

“But I want to use this occasion to implore you (the party leadership) to advise your Ministers, CEOs and other appointees in government that nobody can toy with the Asante Kingdom. I will urge you to produce Wontumi and Maurice Ampaw and the entire management of Wontumi TV/Radio to appear before us”, he stated.

The party has, however, disassociated itself from the comments made by Lawyer Maurice Ampaw.

“Maurice is responsible for his actions we have no hands in his comments”, said Justin Frimpong Kodua.
