MPs post-budget workshop should be held in Parliament to reduce cost, says Kofi Adams
He claims that if the plan is approved, the nation will save over GHC1.4 million on lodging for MPs
The Member of Parliament for Buem constituency in the Oti region, Kofi Iddie Adams, has proposed that the workshop for MPs after the 2024 post-budget should be held within the precincts of Parliament.
He indicated that accommodating staff and other auxiliary staff in the house will make hosting the workshop outside very expensive.
Adams made the proposal on the floor of Parliament on Friday 10 November 2023 following the presentation of the business statement of the house for the week ending 17 November 2023 by deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin.
He indicated that the current economic conditions of the country make it very imperative for the legislature to lead by example by opting for an in-house post-budget workshop instead of hosting the event outside.
Addressing the press in Parliament, Adams said, “We sit in Parliament to transact even more important business than just a mere workshop; we are going to debate the budget right here; do we get destroyed when we sit every day to do our business? If we are able to do our business every day, it is possible to have the post-budget hearing here without any challenge at all.”
