The National House of Chiefs has condemned the murder of three people at Abesim, near Sunyani, in the Bono Region.
The three were allegedly murdered by Richard Appiah, a self-styled architect, who also stocked their body parts in a double-door fridge.
The president of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II, delivering an address at a general meeting, said the House unreservedly condemns the act.
“The National House of Chiefs condemns in no uncertain terms the gruesome murder of three teenagers at Abesim in the Bono Region and the killing of two persons and injury to four others by soldiers during the protest against the killing of a social media activist, Ibrahim Mohammed, popularly known as Kaaka, at Ejura in the Ashanti Region,” Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi said.
Beef up securty
Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi also used the opportunity to congratulate the newly appointed Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, and asked him to beef up security across the nation further, following a recent hike in murder, kidnapping cases and daytime robbery.
“The National House of Chiefs is using this platform to congratulate the newly appointed IGP, George Akuffo Dampare, for his appointment and also calls on him and his men to beef up security for Ghanaians in the midst of the numerous broad-daylight robberies in Accra, the national capital, and other parts of the country,” he said.
He further urged the IGP to make “concerted efforts to protect police officers in the fight against crime”, adding that the government must provide police personnel with the tools they need to ensure that they can work efficiently.
“There are several instances [where] some police officers suffer critical injuries and even lose their lives in the time of performing their official duties,” he said. “Nananom therefore want to appeal to the government to provide the men and women in uniform [with] the necessary logistics to discharge their duties in a sound and secure environment.”
