The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) today (2 December) holds its parliamentary primaries in 111 orphan constituencies – where it has no sitting MP – nationwide.

The exercise is taking place at the same locations used for the presidential election, according to the party.

The contest is expected to be keen in some constituencies such as Okaikwei North where deputy trade minister Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei is battling it out with former deputy CEO of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Alberta Afia Akoto and former MP Fuseini Issah.

The director of communications at the Office of the President Eugene Arhin is also gunning for the Awutu Senya West seat in the Central Region.

The party said its constituency parliamentary elections committee shall comprise:

1. Chairperson of the constituency council of elders as chair;
2. Constituency chairperson;
3. Constituency secretary, who shall be the secretary to the committee;
4. An elderly woman in the constituency appointed by the constituency executive committee
