NPP orders flags to fly at half-mast in honour of Alhaji Fuseini Maiga

The New Patriotic Party leadership has been shaken by the death of the Nasara wing founder and NPP stalwart in a fatal car crash

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party has ordered all party flags to fly at half-mast in honour of Alhaji Fuseini Maiga for the next week.

The founder of the party’s Nasaara wing was killed in a fatal car crash on Sunday.

A statement issued and signed by the NPP general secretary, John Boadu, said: “The NPP has received with profound shock and disbelief news of the untimely demise of the founder of the party’s Nasara wing, Alhaji Fuseini Maiga, which sad event occurred in the late hours of Sunday 27 September 2020, following his involvement in a fatal car accident.

“Alhaji Maiga, without doubt, had been the embodiment of the vision and aspirations of NPP Nasara, and certainly, he would for ever be remembered for his unparalleled contribution to making the NPP extremely attractive to the good people of zongo and other settler communities in the country,” the NPP statement said.

Mark of respect

The party said it equally commiserates with his close associates and with the rank and file of the party’s Nasara wing following this incalculable loss.

“In recognition of his legendary greatness, and as a mark of respect to honour his memory, the NPP directs all party flags at its offices across the country to fly at half-mast for the next seven days.

“Once again, the party stands with the bereaved family and will provide them the needed support in these difficult times.

“May Almighty Allah bless the gentle soul of our departed father, mentor and patriot, Alhaji Maiga, and grant him Jannatul-Firdaws,” the statement said.

Alhaji Fuseini Maigi is survived by three wives and 14 children.

About Nasara

Nasara is the zongo wing of the New Patriotic Party with the primary role of mobilising members within zongo communities.

It was conceived by Alhaji Hussein Maiga and other Muslim patriots such as Hajia Meimuna Yakubu (Hajia Fara), Alhaji Rufai, Alhaji Bismi and Alhaji Sadat, who obtained approval from the then NPP national chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, and the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to create Nasara as a club whose executives are appointed at the constituency level.

In 2018 the NPP constitution was amended to make Nasara a special wing of the party.

At present, co-ordinators from the constituency to national levels are elected and deputies appointed to assist the elected co-ordinators. Abdul Aziz Futah is the current national Nasara co-ordinator.
