The lightning allegedly injured the girls and instantly killed the boy, Emmanuel Dorli who was a coconut hawker in Ho. He was 17 years old and a student of Sokode Senior High School in the Ho municipality

Severe rains followed by lightning allegedly struck three people – two girls and a boy – at Ho Bankoe on Monday (30 May).

The lightning allegedly injured the girls and instantly killed the boy, Emmanuel Dorli who was a coconut hawker in Ho. He was 17 years old and a student of Sokode Senior High School in the Ho Municipality.

The other two affected persons were rushed to the Ho Teaching Hospital where they are responding to treatment.

The incident generated mixed reactions among residents as to the real cause of the tragedy, some linking it to superstition while others are reading scientific meaning into it.

The mother of the deceased, Joyce Dorli told Asaase News that, she was at work when she got informed of the news.

Rites were performed at the scene before the body was conveyed to the morgue.

Meanwhile, Nogokpo shrine, a known deity in the area, has announced on its Facebook page that, “a coconut vendor in Ho was struck by lightning, and his body was abandoned at the scene. It is true that there is a thunder god who strikes. It is not a superstition “.

Asaase News contacted one of the priests of the Nogokpo Shrine, Williams Amuzu Agbodzalu, who said the gods are aware of the incident but “we cannot come for the body because the family did not consult us, we are waiting for the family to come and consult the oracle” .
