GHS begins verification of vaccination status for travellers at KIA

It follows the inability of some vaccinated individuals to verify their proof of vaccination using the QR code on their COVID-19 vaccination cards

The Ghana Health Service has established a desk at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for the verification of vaccination status for travellers.

It follows the inability of some vaccinated individuals, especially those travelling out of the country, to verify their proof of vaccination using the Barcode (QR code) on their COVID-19 vaccination cards or via the https://covid19vaccination.gov.gh/verify portal.

A statement signed by the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye said: “In the interim, a desk has been set up at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for verification of vaccination status for travelers.

“Fully vaccinated outbound travelers (i.e., received two doses of AstraZeneca or Sputnik-V vaccine) departing from KIA should contact the Vaccination Verification Desk of the Port Health Unit at the Departure Hall of KIA to verify their vaccination status prior to departure.”

The Ghana Health Service said other fully vaccinated individuals desirous of verifying their vaccination status should visit the nearest health facility or District Health Directorate for assistance.

Volta, Bono and Bono East regions now hotspots

Meanwhile, the GHS has stated that the Volta, Bono and Bono East Regions are emerging as new hotspots for the Coronavirus infections, especially the Delta Variant.

The Director General of the GHS, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye said the Volta Region, which previously recorded 16 active cases on 1 July, had recorded 532 cases as at (1 August), while the figures for the Bono Region increased from eight cases to 200 and Bono East from three to 178.

Speaking at a media briefing in Accra on Wednesday (4 August), he said the country recorded about 5000 cases alone last month.
He is attributing the driving force behind the surge in infections to disregard for the COVID-19 protocols.
