Savannah Region: One dies in boat accident, others missing

Two passengers have so far survived the accident while disaster management officials search for other missing persons

At least one person has been confirmed dead following a boat disaster on the Black Volta in the Bole District of the Savannah Region, officials said.

Two passengers have so far survived the accident, which occurred on Thursday 25 May 2023. Disaster management officials said they are still searching for some missing passengers.

The Bole district director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Kipo Sulemana said the boat is believed to have crashed into tree stump in the water on their way from Dorkochina in the Bole District to Banda district of the Bono East region.

“At the moment we are still doing investigations to get the number of people who were onboard,” he told Asaase News.

Sulemana has appealed to the government to provide lifejackets to the community in order to save lives in times of disaster on the lake.
