NPP Eastern Region chairman, Kingston Kissi, joins race for party’s national vice-chairmanship

The NPP is expected to hold its national delegates’ conference in the coming days and elect the individuals to occupy eight key national executive offices

The incumbent Eastern Regional chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kingston Akomeng Kissi, has decided to contest for the position of NPP national vice-chairman in the party’s upcoming national executive elections, a source close to his campaign has told Asaase News.

The NPP national vice-chairman aspirant won re-election as the NPP Eastern Regional chairman on 23 April 2018, standing unopposed in the poll.

Chairman Kissi is generally seen as a distinguished and hard-working member of the NPP in the Eastern Region.

He is a well-known farmer and served as a two-term MP for Akwatia, in the Eastern Region of Ghana, between January 2001 and January 2009. Kissi also once served as the chairman of the board for the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).

The NPP is expected to hold its national delegates’ conference in the coming days and to elect the individuals who will occupy eight key national executive offices.

The national positions to be balloted are: national chairman, national vice-chairman, national treasurer, general secretary, national organiser, national youth organiser, national women’s organiser and national Nasara co-ordinator.

The NPP’s national elections committee is expected to publish for the notice of the general public, in consultation with stakeholders of the party, the names of aspirants who have filed nomination forms to contest any of the eight positions.

The aspirants will be vetted subsequently, on specific dates yet to be announced but before the final election date.
