Clash2CrushCOVID … It’s 2 to 12 in the Asaase Sound Clash!

Asaase Radio donated personal protective equipment to the Ashaiman Polyclinic yesterday in the lead-up to Saturday’s Asaase Sound Clash

The maiden edition of the Asaase Sound Clash, dubbed the Clash2ClashCOVID, will see a first-of-its-kind face-off between two of Ghana’s most admired dancehall artistes – Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr, known in show business as Shatta Wale, and Livingstone Etse Satekla, also known as Stonebwoy.

The main event goes down this Saturday, 12 September, but there’s been a string of activities in the lead-up to the big day.

Yesterday (Thursday 9 September) the Asaase Sound Clash team, in collaboration with Asaase Radio and in partnership with the Ministry of Health, visited the Ashaiman Polyclinic. The health facility is in the heart of the home base of Stonebwoy, the 1GAD man.

On behalf of the company, the head of events at Asaase Radio and her team donated personal protective equipment, including face masks, gloves, hand sanitiser and jumbo rolls of tissue.

Back to home base – Ashaiman

Not only will this maiden Asaase Sound Clash be entertaining, but it is an effort to educate young Ghanaians about how to prevent falling prey to the novel coronavirus. Since the disease hit China late last year, the devastating impact of COVID-19 has been felt by people the world over.

“As part of the Sound Clash, we have come here to the home base of our artiste Stonebwoy, because this is where he comes from – this is his home base. That is why we are here in the clinic that represents where he comes from: to make the donation for him,” said Naomi Nelson-Barnes, head of marketing and events at Asaase Radio, as she presented the PPE to managers of the Ashaiman Polyclinic.

“We are very happy to have come here. The staff have received us very warmly and we are hoping that this is just the first step to do even greater things,” she said.

Wanted: a water pump

Stephen Tuure, a member of staff at the polyclinic, accepting the items on behalf of the institution. Later, a statement from the staff expressed their appreciation for the gift.

“We thank Asaase Radio. They’ve come at a timely [moment] with these PPEs. On behalf of management and our medical director, we wish to thank the management and staff of Asaase Radio for bringing these PPEs.

“We promise that they will be put to good use to save our clients.”

Staff at the polyclinic are saddled with myriad challenges. They made a further appeal for assistance to improve facilities. They hope to get a dental department and a water pump to facilitate their work and enable them to render quality health care.

Residents of Ashaiman currently depend on Tema General Hospital and the Tema Polyclinic for dental services.

“Ashaiman is a densely populated area, so most of our clients go to Tema General,” Stephen Tuure said. “If we had a dental department, we could maybe save them a lot of stress.

“That is one of our main medium-to-long-term objectives and any support from anywhere towards it is highly welcome.”
