Christian Council declares a week-long prayer and fasting for peaceful polls

The Christian Council says the programme is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, 25 November to Sunday, 29 November 2020 across the country

The Christian Council of Ghana has announced a week-long non-denominational prayer and fasting session for a peaceful election on 7 December 2020.

In a statement, the Council said the programme is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, 25 November to Sunday, 29 November 2020, in churches across the country.

The programme, which is under the theme: “Seek peace and pursue it” will be climaxed with a peace rally across the country.

All Christians in Accra are expected to gather at the Perez Dome on 29 November while those in the other regions will gather at a church auditorium in their respective regions for the rally, the statement added. “The day will be used to proclaim peace for Ghana,” it noted.

“All flagbearers will be called upon to affirm their commitment to peaceful elections,” the statement said, adding: “We, the leaders of the Christian Ecumenical Bodies in Ghana deem it a responsibility to mobilise Christians for prayer and sensitize them to work towards peaceful elections in the country.”

Ghana will be holding its eighth elections under the Fourth Republic since 1992 on 7 December 2020 in a close contest between incumbent President, Nana Akufo-Addo and former leader, John Mahama.
