Ebenezer Abekah will serve a total of 17 years in prison for escaping from cell and also defilement

A court has sentenced Ebenezer Abekah, the man who escaped from police custody in Bekwai, to 17 years in jail after he was found guilty of defilement.

The judge Mark Dibori Tairima ordered that the convict serves a cumulative sentence of a 24-month jail term for breaking jail and 15 years for defilement.

Abekah, 24, and Nana Antwi, 22, were being held for committing various offences pending court appearance when they both escaped on the eve of judgment.

The suspects escaped from cell at the Bekwai District Police Station on Friday 5 March around 7.30pm.

They were said to have pushed down the metal gate and escaped while on-duty officers were out engaging in a clean up exercise.

Abekah was rearrested a day after he escaped.
