A member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo, has said the outcome of the upcoming by-election in Assin North in the Central Region may determine, which party will win the 2024 elections.
The Electoral Commission has fixed 27 June for the parliamentary poll after the Supreme Court declared that the election and swearing-in of the MP for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, sitting on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was unconstitutional, null and void.
Appearing on Asaase 99.5 Accra’s news analysis show, The Forum, on Saturday (3 June), Samoa Addo said the by -election will determine if the electorate have fallen out with the current government or otherwise.

“We are going to funeral to funeral, door to door, church to church, mosque to mosque, house to house. We will all be there… I am waiting for the final results,” he said.
“If at the end of the day, the NPP does not try their trick of getting our agents to sign before the declaration of the results and the results come out and we have won and we stretch the margin then I will believe that this party is on its way out.
“But if they win, it has a serious implication for the national elections. So, I think that this by-election is a good testing grounds, let’s all go and see,” Samoa Addo added.

Disagree
However, speaking on the same programme, Kwame Jantuah, a private legal practitioner and a member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), disagrees. He believes other factors may contribute to which party wins the 2024 elections.
“Issues are different in every area,” Jantuah told the host Wilberforce Asare. “Different areas in this country are suffering from different things.”
“And it depends also on who is chosen to lead the NPP as a presidential candidate, remember that has not come into focus yet, and how that leader will be able to defend the current NPP administration,” Jantuah added.
