PICTURES: Mahama, Zanetor and others celebrate 4 June in Hohoe

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC),  John Mahama, has admonished Ghanaians to protect and strengthen the nation’s democracy by being active participants in the process.

Mahama was speaking at a durbar in Hohoe in the Volta Region on Sunday (4 June) to commemorate the 44th anniversary of the 4 June uprising,

4 June 1979 had been preceded by the abortive 15 May 1979 uprising, also led by Flt Lt Rawlings, who subsequently became the chairman of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC), which ruled Ghana for three months, before handing power to a democratically elected civilian government.

The event was attended by a host of dignitaries including 2020 running mate of former president John Mahama, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and Samuel Okudzeto, MP for North Tongu.
