Afrobeat is the best genre to represent African music, says Camidoh

Camidoh like many other music enthusiasts believes that there should be a common genre that can depict African music

Sensational afrobeat musician, Raphael Camidoh Kofi Attachie, just known as Camidoh in showbiz, has said that afrobeat is the best genre to represent all African music.

Camidoh like many other music enthusiasts believes that there should be a common genre that can depict African music.

Appearing on Asaase 99.5 Accra‘s Rush Hour show on Wednesday (1 February), Camidoh said: “The afrobeat is a culture on its own. It’s simply saying Africa and everything that we do in Africa is under afrobeat.”

“Everything that we do in Africa is under Afrobeats. For me, I think that everything African is still under the umbrella of Afrobeats, we can only move forward,” he said.

“Someone wants to carry only highlife, someone wants to carry only hiplife, but this is an umbrella name which means we can have the hiplife, the highlife, whatever it is under this umbrella.”

According to him, afrobeats has no defined characteristics.

“If I ask what’s afrobeats, no one can tell me exactly what’s afrobeats. I may make a highlife song and it’s going to be called afrobeats on the global stage.

“No one is going to give you an award on a BET stage and categorise it as highlife award. And unity is strength if we all unite and put our sounds together and call it afrobeats there is nothing wrong with it,” Camidoh said.
