Lawrence Ayagiba appointed deputy auditor general

His promotion comes at a time when the current Auditor General, Daniel Domelevo, is away on leave for 167 days, as directed by the Office of the President

The board of the Ghana Audit Service (GAS) has announced the appointment of Lawrence Ayagiba as the deputy auditor general.

The board also announced the appointment of Vera Quashie as the assistant auditor general.

“The Audit Service Board has authorized the promotion of Mr Lawrence Ayagiba, who was successful at the interviews, to Deputy Auditor General [and] Mrs Vera Quarshie, who was successful at the recent interviews, to the position of Assistant Auditor General (Board Secretary),” a statement from the Audit Service said.

The appointments come at a time when the current Auditor General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo, is taking 167 days of accumulated leave, as directed by the Office of the President. There is a case pending at the Supreme Court, however, seeking to set aside that order.

The presidency asked Johnson Asiedu to act in Domelevo’s stead but the new appointments in the absence of the substantive boss raise questions about the hierarchy at the service upon his resumption.

Lawrence Ayagiba has been an assistant auditor general of the Ghana Audit Service for more than 13 years.

From 2002 to 2006, he worked with the Qube Consultancy as an associate consultant. Before that, he was the senior architect at Design Associates.

He has an MBA in finance from the University of Ghana and an MSc in architecture from the Byelorussian Academy Minsk.
