Mustapha Ussif insists Essipong Stadium renovation will be completed as planned

Youth and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif has assured that the renovation of the Essipong Stadium in Takoradi will be completed as scheduled.

The renovation of the facility which started in 2021 with a $3 million budget has been delayed leaving it in a deplorable state.

But Mustapha Ussif has been explaining why the project delayed, for him, the climatic conditions of Takoradi derailed the work.

“Takoradi you know is close to the sea and most of the materials that we’re using, have rusted and we have engaged the contractor and the contractor has done what we call the blasting. And to do the blasting, you need to take all the roof of blast order the materials that were used so that they can stand the sea.”

The member of parliament for Yagaba-Kubori Constituency in the North East Region despite the delay says the contractor has resumed work and he is hopeful the stadium will be completed as scheduled.

“The contractor is still on site making sure that he’s completed. They’ve taken almost all the roof off. What I can assure you is that we’ll get the contractor to complete the stadium and put it just like we have done in Accra sports stadium we have done in Kumasi sports stadium, and we are doing in Takoradi. Takoradi will be completed and the stadium we be put to good use.” He said
