Suspended NPP members reinstated under party amnesty

Volta/New Patriotic Party (NPP)/Election 2024

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a sweeping amnesty for members who were suspended or facing disciplinary proceedings, in what party leaders describe as a bid to foster unity ahead of future political battles.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the party’s National Council on 25 July 2025.

In a statement signed by acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey, the NPP said the amnesty “lifts all such suspensions and waives any ongoing proceedings against affected members.”

However, members who had forfeited their membership will only be reinstated after submitting a formal application to the party’s national secretariat. Even then, they will remain barred from contesting in any internal elections for two years.

“This measure reflects the Party’s unwavering commitment to fostering internal cohesion, strengthening solidarity, and preparing collectively for the political tasks ahead,” the statement added.

The party has also cautioned regional and constituency executives against arbitrary suspensions, insisting that all disciplinary matters must henceforth follow due process under the NPP constitution.
