The Sungani Traditional Council has banned noise-making, drumming, and funerals in the traditional area from Monday 11 March 2024 to Tuesday 9 April 2024.
The one-month ban on social gatherings forms part of the final funeral rites of the late Omanhene of Sunyani, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri.
The Akwamuhene of Sunyani traditional area and the acting president of Sunyani Traditional Council, Nana Kwaku Sarbeng, announced this at a press conference in Sunyani on Tuesday (20 February).
Outlining activities of the final funeral rites of the late Omanhene, Nana Kwaku Sarbeng entreated residents of Sunyani to cooperate with the Traditional Council to make the organization of the final funeral rites a success from Monday 1 April 2024, to Sunday, 9 April 2024.
The resident would also be required to wear the traditional mourning colours (red and black) in Sunyani, within this period.
Removal of roofing sheet fencing and fixing of posters and billboards other than that of the late Omanhene will also not be permitted in Sunyani.
Due to the high number of visitors expected in Sunyani during the period, residents are directed to clean the frontage of their houses and shops.
Residents who have properties along major roads in Sunyani are also to re-paint them within that period.
Nana Kwaku Sarbeng announced that residential Households, which are story buildings, are entitled to pay GHC100, smaller households are to pay GHp50 and corporate institutions and companies are to pay a minimum of GHC3,000.
Churches are to also pay GHC10 to GHC300 depending on the church size. Nana Kwaku Sarbeng indicated that the late Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri was a great asset to Sunyani who helped the traditional area in diverse ways, so it is only proper that residents support the Sunyani Traditional Council in giving him a befitting farewell.
The late Omanhene of Sunyani, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri, passed on at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital in July 2022 after a short ailment at the age of 77.
