All is set for George Kumi, a former ambassador to Libya and Nigeria, to battle the incumbent Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh, for the parliamentary candidature slot for the NPP in the 2024 elections on Saturday (9 March 2024).
The parliamentary primary in the constituency was put on hold due to legal action over the delegates’ list.
The party has, however, directed the constituency to use the 2018 Sunyani East constituency album for the election. About 887 delegates are expected to vote for their preferred candidate.
The Bono regional research and election officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Osei, said in an interview that all is set for Saturday’s election.
“We are so set to go for the election tomorrow (Saturday, 9 March 2024) as we’ve always been out with protocols. EC is in charge of the election. The police are also in charge of security arrangements. Every material is ready and the venue is also ready [Pastoral Centre].
“Two aspirants are already aware of the 2018 album, and they’ve been given a copy for the past three weeks. The total number of delegates expecting to vote is 887, but since it’s a 2018 album, we are expecting that some delegates may not be available because others might have passed on while others might have travelled,” said Osei.
He cautioned delegates to conduct themselves well to prevent any disturbance.
