Coming second to Blacko is a plus for me, says Piesie Esther

The gospel act says the current Artiste of the Year, Black Sherif, deserves the title because he worked hard for it

Gospel singer Piesie Esther is happy to have placed second after Black Sherif as the Artiste of the Year at the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) held on Saturday (6 May).

Speaking on the Between Hours show with Naa Ashorkor, Piesie said, “I thought of the odds when Mark Okraku-Mantey [Deputy minister of tourism] was announcing the winner for the Artiste of the year. It’s perfectly fine that Blacko [Black Sherif] won.”

The “Waye meyie” singer said she was genuinely happy for Black Sherif as winner of the ultimate prize Saturday night.

“The thoughts running through my mind were that where I have gotten to is by the grace of God; my story is simply from nowhere to somewhere. So, I am even happy to be seated there,” she said on Asaase 99.5 Accra on Monday 8 May 2023.

She said Blacko deserves the crown although she worked so hard for it.

“I didn’t go with the mentality that I deserved this more than he did. Taking second place in the vote counting is a plus for me.

“I am so happy because I love him,” Piesie Esther said. “He [Blacko] has too much talent.”

Piesie Esther grabbed two awards – Best Gospel Song with “Wayɛ me yie” and the Best Gospel Artiste of the Year.
