Students of Jasikan College clash with police

Students at Jasikan College of Education in the Oti Region are protesting over what they described as “low-quality” meals served by the institution.

The students said they have complained several times to the management of the college, but nothing has been done.

According to the students, the quality of the meal does not meet their expectations of nutritional value.

The SRC president, Freeman Zokah, said they are sometimes served with porridge without bread, sugar, or milk.

“We have been given white porridge without sugar, bread, or groundnut since the beginning of the year. The porridge is sometimes fermented.

“So, we protested against the poor food we were being fed. We are told feeding grants have not been paid, but we know they have been paid,” Zokah said.

“The protest was not only about the food; the lights at the ladies’ dormitories have been disconnected. We are going through a lot,” Zokah added.

He also said that GH51 has been taken off their monthly allowances to augment the allocated feeding grants.

Police assault

Zokah said the management of the school called the police to campus to restore law and order during the protest, alleging that one of them assaulted him.

Meanwhile, as of the time of filing this report, officials of the college have not commented on the incident.
