Rains destroy 54 houses in Janga, says MCE

Some of the residents have started reconstruction while others are appealing to the government to come to their rescue with roofing sheets and other building materials

Last Sunday’s downpour in Janga in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region destroyed 54 houses, rendering many inhabitants homeless, official figures show.

Some of the residents have started reconstruction while others are appealing to the government to come to their rescue with roofing sheets and other building materials.

Speaking to Asaase News, the municipal chief executive for West Mamprusi, Issahak Arimeyaw Basintale also confirmed that some schools had their roofing ripped off while others were completely razed to the ground after the downpour.

“So far, I can confirm that about 54 houses have been affected. As municipal assembly, we will have to look at how best through other agencies we can support them. We will also look through the NADMO team to see how immediately what we can do to support the people who have been dispersed,” Basintale said.

He said measures are underway by the assembly to come to the aid of the victims while appealing to central government and NGOs, benevolent organisations, and philanthropists to support the people of Janga to get their houses rehabilitated before the rains set in.
