Reggae and dancehall sensation Stonebwoy has raised concerns about what he describes as a deeply ingrained negative mindset among Ghanaians.
He believes this attitude is discouraging and needs urgent redress. His remarks stem from reactions following his encounter with Nigerian influencer Peller, whom he promised to assist in traveling to the UK.
According to Stonebwoy, the skepticism and negativity surrounding the gesture reflect a troubling trend in the Ghanaian psyche.
“It’s heartbreaking and [this negativity from Ghanaians] needs to be addressed because in as much as we can’t wash our dirty linens outside, it’s heartbreaking to realise that in 2025, there’s this level of mentality that is still surrounding us as Ghanaian people,” he said.
Stonebwoy also recalled another incident at a Grammy event where he interacted with Taylor Swift. Despite the casual nature of the moment, some Ghanaians criticized him, a reaction he finds unwarranted.
“You go to the Grammys, you’re connecting with Taylor Swift on the whole carpet, ain’t nobody talking to her, I say hi, we vibe and there was a negative reception by some of the Ghanaian populace. It’s interesting that it becomes the popular narrative, which then destroys the whole quality of what we can churn out of such moments,” he added.
He fears that this trend may discourage artists from seizing global opportunities and building meaningful connections that could elevate Ghana’s entertainment industry.
Stonebwoy hopes for a shift in mentality, calling on Ghanaians to embrace positivity and support their own.
