Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, has stressed the importance of unity, peace, and strategic decision-making as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) holds its National Delegates Conference at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium today, 19 July.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the conference, the former Deputy Finance Minister said the party must emerge from the event more coherent and focused on winning back power in 2028.
“There should be peace here, there should be unity here. We need to be able to move and approve motions that will enable us to win 2028; that is the main goal,” Dr Amoah said.
The conference, which has drawn over 5,500 delegates from across the country, is expected to vote on a raft of constitutional amendments aimed at strengthening the party’s internal structures and expanding its electoral base.
Dr Amoah said while intra-party disagreements are normal in a democratic setting, they must not be mistaken for division.
“The fact that sometimes we don’t agree doesn’t mean we are disunited. We are together,” he insisted. “We want to show that the NPP is still a formidable party, although we are in opposition.”
He also emphasised the need for all deliberations at the conference to reflect a shared commitment to the party’s broader mission.
“All that I want to say here is peace, unity, tranquillity, coexistence, teamwork, coherence, and above all, every single motion here should be geared towards the higher probability that NPP will win 2028. That’s all that we want.”
The conference comes at a critical time for the NPP, following its loss in the 2024 general elections. Party leaders say the reforms under consideration are meant to position the party as a more inclusive and competitive force ahead of the next national polls.
