The military retrieved two AK-47 rifles, two pump action machine guns, a pistol, and some live pellets during the arrest

At least 12 individuals suspected to be land guards including a private developer have been arrested by the military over a land dispute between the developer and the youth of Gambaga.

The suspects have been handed over to the police in the East Mamprusi municipality in Gambaga for further interrogation.

The military retrieved two AK-47 rifles, two pump action machine guns, a pistol, and some live pellets during the arrest.

What we know so far

The private developer, Tanko Fatau, alias Balewa, allegedly encroached on a piece of land in the Gambaga community belonging to the district assembly.

According to sources, the youth demolished a structure belonging to Fatau on the said land in 2021 after he failed to heed several warnings.

Fatau then brought the suspected land guards from the Northern Region to guard the land on Tuesday (27 September) in order to start new development.

This resulted in clashes between the community youth and the suspects.

Police sources said two persons from the community received some gun shot wounds in the melee.

The military and the regional administration have declined to comment on the development.
