All genres have elements of highlife sounds, says Kwabena Kwabena
Appearing on the Between Hours show on Asaase 99.5 Accra, the 'Aso' hitmaker expressed his excitement about the introduction of drill music and highlife to the Grammy Awards
Award-winning highlife musician, George Kwabena Adu, popularly known as Kwabena Kwabena, has said that he feels unfulfilled because highlife in Ghana has not reached its full potential.
Speaking on Between Hours show with Keely-Jade Brewer, the highlife legend said: “My dream is not yet fulfilled, but I’ll say when the whole of Ghana recognises highlife music as our baby, that’s when I’ll be fulfilled.”
According to him, “lately, I have been listening to the playlists on the various platforms, especially with Apple Music. I was listening to Ghana Bounce, and from track one to the last track, I didn’t find any music that didn’t have 99% of highlife in it.”
“So, I ask myself, ‘why is it that we are playing the rhythm and we can’t be bold enough to actually tell the whole world that this is highlife music?’”
The ‘Aso’ hitmaker, however, expressed his excitement about the introduction of drill music and highlife to the Grammy Awards.
“God being so good, the Grammys are recognising two genres of music that originate from Ghana. Why don’t we concentrate on these two genres of music and perfect it,” the guitarist said.
