Apasera: My supposed dismissal from PNC is “bogus”

The 2020 flagbearer who was initially suspended by the party over allegations of misconduct and embezzlement of party funds was booted out of the party on Thursday

The 2020 flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), David Apasera has rubbished his purported dismissal from the party, saying it must not be taken seriously.

Apasera, who was initially suspended by the party over allegations of misconduct and embezzlement of party funds was booted out of the party on Thursday (12 May).

But speaking to Beatrice Adu on The Big Bulletin on Thursday, Apasera said, “the constitution of the party is such that even me as leader of the party, I cannot get up and sack somebody, it is impossible. Because the constitution says that when you think that somebody has committed an offence, you have to petition the disciplinary committee, the committee will give the person a fair hearing and then after that recommend whatever sanctions should be applied.”

“So, it is bogus [the decision to dismiss him] and in no time you’ll see. I have been told they went to the party office, I don’t know who gave them the keys, but you’ll soon see that these are non-entities in the party and they have no locus, they have no right whatsoever, they’re unscrupulous. They don’t care about the survival of this party,” he said.

He added that “I am a member of the PNC and not only a member, but I’m also the leader of PNC. Per our constitution, as the past flagbearer, I am the leader of the party.”

Reasons for dismissal

Janet Nabila, general secretary of the PNC, told journalists that the national chairman of the party, Moses Dani Baah has also been dismissed.

She said: “NEC concluded that the duo violated Article 14 (A) of the PNC constitution, which states that any member of the party who is aggrieved by the party’s action and inaction shall within 21 days seek redress from the internal dispute resolution of the party and shall have a further right of appeal. NEC also took notice of a purported standing committee meeting, which was unduly conveyed and presided over by the two.”

“On May 7, 2022, the said meeting was attended by some members of the party, despite an official caution from the party leadership. Consequently, NEC duly adopted the following; following the violation of the constitution of the party, the memberships of the two have been terminated.”
