The Bono regional office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) in collaboration with the Sunyani Area of the VRA/NEDCO, held a stakeholders forum on the Self-Help Electrification Project (SHEP Project).
In an open forum, Bono Regional Minister Justina Owusu Banahene questioned VRA/NEDCo on how the 3000 stolen metres ended up in the hands of Bono residents.
Patrick Nana Yaw Antwi, the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo regional manager of PURC, stated that since the Bono regional office’s inception in 2018, they have received over 5,000 complaints and have resolved 97% of them.
Antwi, on the other hand, expressed concern about the losses and damages caused by unscrupulous individuals, which he believes require immediate attention.
He said the PURC is monitoring VRA/NEDCo to make sure enough meters are supplied to consumers, which will reduce meter theft in the region. He urged all to purchase meters through the right channel.
The Self-Help Electrification Project (SHEP Project) was introduced by the government to encourage communal participation and self-help development initiatives in communities.
The stakeholder forum was attended by both the Bono and Ahafo Regional Ministers, the Queen Mother of Sunyani Traditional Area, Nana Asor Akosua Dua Sika Brayie, and MMDCEs from both Bono and Ahafo Regions.
