Ghana Chamber of Commerce Guyana to facilitate air transport to the Caribbean

The move to establish more direct air links comes after the launch of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce Guyana in the Caribbean nation

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, the chairman of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce Guyana, has said the chamber is poised to facilitate air transport between Ghana and Guyana to increase trade.

Speaking on Lite104.1 FM in Guyana after the launch of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce, Otchere-Darko said: “… I want to give you a promise, I’m going to put my neck on the line; for this Christmas, we’re working on a charter flight [covering] if people from the Caribbean [want to travel to Accra], for those who want to go and celebrate Christmas and come back. So that arrangement is being made.

“We are in discussions with some airlines and we are hoping that, before the end of this year, we may be looking at a solution [to get a direct flight to Guyana]. A solution that could end up being Lagos-Accra-Kingston and Georgetown.”

Bilateral relations between Guyana and Ghana have been strengthened following the launch of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce Guyana.

The chamber will allow the two countries to connect businesses and foster investment, which will further drive local economic growth.

The chamber is the first of its kind to be established by Ghana in the Caribbean. Guyana and Ghana will use it to work together in many areas, including oil and gas, tourism, agriculture, education, sports and health.

In 2019, Guyana and Ghana signed a two-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) governing trade relations and information-sharing between the two states.
