Musah Hamza, the 27-year-old man, whose mother was lynched over witchcraft allegation in Janga in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region, has said he is distraught.
Hamza’s mother was killed in cold blood on Sunday (24 September) by suspects Abila and Fatau after their father was struck by sickness, which they claimed was caused by the woman (their aunt).
“I can’t even explain the pain I am going through,” Hamza told Asaase News. “My mother was the one taking care of my school fees and everything and this is the case that they killed my mother. I am even wondering how to pay my second-semester fees.”.
“I don’t know how to express the pain. Her death really hurts me a lot,” Hamza said while holding back tears.
Hamza and his elder sister, Musah Asana, are calling on the police to give them justice by arresting the culprits.
“So, I am pleading with the security agencies to arrest them [Sumani Abila and Sumani Fatau] so that they jail them because I am feeling the pain. They should do justice to the case,” Hamza added.
Abila and Fatau are currently on the run after allegedly murdering the 60-year-old woman.
The remains of Musah Azaratu Poanaa was laid to rest on Monday (25 September) at the Walewale cemetery.
The police have declined comment on the matter.
Ghana’s parliament has passed a bill to protect people accused of witchcraft, making it a crime to abuse them or send them away from communities.
The new law was suggested after a 90-year-old woman was lynched in Kafaba in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region in July 2020, drawing condemnation from local and international rights groups.
