‘Some Mahama appointees showing signs of corruption’ – Kwame Jantuah reveals

Jantuah, speaking on Asaase Radio’s The Forum on Saturday (17 May) disclosed that he has personally confronted several officials over deals he believes violate the code of conduct for public appointees

Kwame Jantuah, a member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has raised concerns about unethical practices by some officials in the Mahama administration, warning that unchecked corruption could harm Ghana’s economy.

Jantuah, speaking on Asaase Radio’s The Forum on Saturday (17 May) disclosed that he has personally confronted these officials over deals he believes violate the code of conduct for public appointees, as set out by the President.

He further warned that if public officials continue to place personal interests above national welfare, the nation’s economic stability could be threatened.

“I know that some deals are going on that are untoward, that go against this code of conduct. It is happening under the Mahama administration, which is wrong, and I have approached some of them privately to say this should stop,” he revealed.

“If we do not let our personal interests die, it is going to affect our economy. For me, that is one big thing that needs to change, and the mindset needs to change,” Jantuah emphasised.

Jantuah’s comments come amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board’s donation of a dollar gift to Evangelist Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as “Agradaa”.

He questioned the effectiveness of the code of conduct for public officials launched by the President, arguing that without proper monitoring, ethical breaches would continue.

“The question is, how many would abide by this code of conduct? Who is responsible to monitor that this code of conduct is being practiced?” he asked.

Jantuah suggested that while the Chief of Staff’s office should ideally oversee compliance, a dedicated monitoring and evaluation unit may be necessary to ensure accountability.

“Would the Chief of Staff have the time to monitor? Wouldn’t we establish a monitoring and evaluation unit to check the activities of these appointees?” he proposed.
