#SafeMotorway4All: Accra-Tema Motorway has outlived its usefulness, says NRSA boss

Several attempts by governments to rehabilitate the Accra-Tema Motorway have proven futile over the years

Ing David Osafo Adonteng, acting director of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) says the Accra-Tema Motorway has outlived its usefulness.

Several attempts by governments to rehabilitate the Accra-Tema Motorway have proven futile over the years.

Attempts to also use foreign contractors to fix the deplorable motorway have failed due to lack of funds.

Speaking in an interview with Asaase News’s Caleb Ahinakwah, Adonteng said “I think it [Motorway] has lost its function; the function of providing that quick transportation of goods across the Tema end through Accra to various destinations.”

Vehicular volume has increased. Now you cannot move at the same speed as we use to move, which means that the level of service has gone down.”

Adonteng added, “The volume of vehicles which were using the road at that time was very low, now it has grown to an extent that we have congestion on the Accra-Tema Motorway.”
