The research, which analyzed data from nearly 91,000 participants in the UK Biobank over a 14-year period, found that individuals who compensated for lost sleep on weekends saw up to a 20% decrease in their risk of heart attacks.
The findings offer a hopeful message for those with busy weekday schedules. While consistent sleep habits remain ideal, researchers say that making up for lost rest during the weekend may still provide heart-health benefits.
Experts stress, however, that regular and sufficient sleep throughout the week should remain a priority for long-term well-being.
