A deacon with the Church of Pentecost in Johannesburg, who was kidnapped following a robbery attack, has been freed, Ghana’s high commissioner to South Africa, Charles Owiredu has confirmed.
Members of the congregation of Johannesburg branch of The Church of Pentecost were robbed of their valuables at gun point during a church service on Sunday 29 October.
The church had earlier declared a three-day fasting and prayers following the attack and kidnapping.
However, speaking with Benjamin Offei-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (1 November), Owiredu said the deacon was freed last night.
“It’s been 48 hours now, but thankfully due to the South African police and the church itself, the High Commission and all those who got involved, the gentleman has been freed. He was freed last night and as I speak with you, he is with his family now,” Owiredu said.
