Security operatives have seized 981 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana following an operation in Liero, a town near Fielmuo in the Upper West Region.
The joint police and immigration team made the discovery on Thursday (1 December) during a routine patrol at unapproved routes on the Ghana-Burkina Faso border.
It was revealed that most of the rooms were stocked with bags containing the compressed substances.
There is a serious manhunt for the suspects linked to the items for questioning, an official statement on the seizure said.
The substances have since been transported to the Hamile border post for further investigations.
The Hamile border post commander, Chief Supt. Owusu Ansah said: “Whereas we appreciate the impeccable rapport with the locals, we wish to respectfully inform the few unrepentant ones not to stand in our way. They must either change or we change them, middle grounds is not an option.”
